VW Golf Hybrid

Move over Toyota Prius - there is a new king of the jungle friendly hybrids! Volkswagen is already an industry leading manufacturer of luxury level cars at affordable prices… and now they are green, too!

The first ever VW Hybrid vehicle will be a diesel-electric Golf that delivers 83.1 miles per gallon. The car likely have a parallel hybrid drivetrain with a 2.0 liter engine, all-electric mode at low speed, start-stop capability, regenerative braking and a 7-speed DSG double-clutch transmission.

With minimal emissions speculated at just 89 g/km of CO2, it dominates its two main competitors the Toyota Prius (104 g/km) and the Honda Civic Hybrid (116 g/km). This helps the VW Golf Hybrid pass European and American emissions standards tests with flying colors (mostly green ones).

With that being said, Europe will be lucky enough to see this fabulous car first… probably sometime in 2009. The American release date is completely unknown but if VW is smart they’ll hurry up - this is a car that millions of Americans would love to purchase.
